Anne Rainwater, piano
1913 and Ravel versus Electronics!
March 17, 2018 - 7:30 pm
Oakland-based pianist Anne Rainwater is a dexterous musician known for her vibrant interpretations of works from J.S. Bach to John Zorn. Recognized for her “boldly assertive rhetoric” (San Francisco Examiner) and “bright golden honeycomb for a brain” (Roy Doughty, poet), she appears as a soloist, chamber musician, and educator. For this recital, she reexamines our assumptions about certain styles of music - what do we expect to experience based on when or by what means a piece was written? Does our perception change if we hear dramatically different works side-by-side? Works on the program include pieces by Mei-Fang Lin, Maurice Ravel, Arnold Schoenberg, Claude Debussy, and Danny Clay.
